City of Norwich School

Physical Education and Sports Science

The aim of the PE Department at CNS is to empower students with;

  • Expert sporting technique
  • The resilience to solve problems
  • A depth of knowledge of health and fitness
  • Personal qualities that allow them to work with others

The school is very proud of its sporting pedigree with students representing both county and country in a wide range of sports.

We are committed to providing sporting opportunities for all our students, whatever their abilities, and to develop talent to its full potential, through the timetabled Physical Education (PE) programme and through a range of extra-curricular activities.

Ms.Carroll, Head of PE and Sport Science

Core Curriculum Subject

PE is a core curriculum subject and as such is compulsory up to and including Key Stage 4. Dance is an increasingly popular element of PE work. The program of study (which can be seen in subject summaries) is broad, offering students the opportunity to explore Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games and OAA.

Examination Course

The Examination course in PE includes GCSE and VCert. Sports Leadership level 3 and A2 level are always popular and attract a large number of students. We are able to offer students activities out of school to take part in whilst on these courses.

Links with Nuffield Health and Norwich School Sports Partnership

We have recently established a supportive link with Nuffield Health in order to give our students the best opportunities to participate in sport and understand health and fitness. We are fully involved in local leagues and competitions and play a valuable role in the Norwich School Sport Partnership events linked to the Schools Games.

Facilities

The PE facilities are available for use under staff direction after school and during lunchtimes.The school has extensive playing fields with tennis and netball courts, a Sports Hall and Gymnasium. There is also an outside basketball court and multi-use games area.
