Work Related Learning
Work Related Learning takes many forms at CNS and is aimed to give students the skills that today's employers are looking for.
We have run a highly successful work experience programme for Year 10 students for many years which culminates in students spending the last two weeks of the Summer Term working at a wide range of local employers. Students are supported to approach employers to find their own placement and thus gain first-hand experience of job seeking. Students also receive advice and coaching to ensure that they get the most from their placements, learning about employer expectations and health and safety issues. Each year, employers have been impressed by the motivation, attitude and commitment demonstrated by our students.
The school regularly welcomes visitors from local businesses to talk to students, and in some cases, students have had the opportunity to attend tours of local business premises.
Work Related Learning is also taught as part of our Guidance Days when students have the chance to take part in enterprise and employability activities including mock interviews and Dragon's Den type challenges. We also hold careers fairs at the school.
