Governors

Welcome to the CNS Governing Body. This page will tell you about the make up and working of the Governing Body, where you can meet members of the Governing Body and how you could become a Governor at CNS. There are also links to the list of Governors, the School Policies and the School Profile. To find out about the exciting major building at CNS and how you could help us enhance it, please see the DraMus Project.

At CNS our Governing Body is made up of four types of Governor. We have 7 Parent Governors and 4 Staff Governors. All these governors are elected to the Governing Body apart from the Head teacher! There are 4 governors appointed by the Local Authority and 5 Community Governors who are co-opted by the rest of the Governing Body.

The Governing Body works through four committees: The School Effectiveness Committee chaired by Dr Lucinda Poliakoff, the Resources Committee chaired by Mr Howard Jones, the Personnel Committee chaired by Mrs Margaret Sparrow, and the Student and Parents Committee chaired by Mrs Madeleine Keep. The current Chair of Governors is Dr Lucinda Poliakoff and the Vice Chair is Mr Gareth Phillips.

The Governing Body is not involved in the day to day running of the school but helps to set the strategic direction of the school through agreeing policies, the school development plan and the budget. It also has a monitoring role through receiving reports and through the Governors collective knowledge of the school. You can view current governors' policies here.

At least one Governor is available at each parent’s consultation evening and at most school events. Parent Governors attend the term Parents Forums. These Forums provide an opportunity for parents to hear information about different topics to do with school or parenting. A recent example of the latter was a talk by a guest speaker on understanding teenagers. It is also an opportunity for parents to raise any general school or education issues and to give their ideas and comments. They are very informal meetings and facilitated by Mrs Carol Dallas, Deputy Head. She and the Governors find parents input very helpful and changes have been made as a result of comments at Parents Forums.

If you are interested in becoming a governor at CNS and would like to find out more please contact Dr Lucinda Poliakoff or any governor through the School Office.
