The School
In September 2007, City of Norwich School, or CNS as it is popularly known, became a secondary comprehensive school of approximately 1600 students, 95 teachers and over 40 support staff. CNS is a Norfolk County Council community school and our Sixth Form is funded by the Learning and Skills Council. We are a specialist Technology College and Arts College. This enables us to offer a broad and balanced curriculum whilst providing additional opportunities to CNS students and to the community.
In recent years the school has been over-subscribed. The Sixth Form has over 450 students and enjoys the advantage of partnership with Hethersett High School. We are part of Norwich’s ‘OpenOpportunity’, an innovative 14-19 partnership with Norwich City College, The Hewett School, Notre Dame High School, Earlham High School and Framingham Earl High School. We also benefit from membership of the Norwich Excellence Cluster, the School Sports Co-ordinator Scheme and AimHigher Norfolk.
CNS has a proud tradition. We take great pride in the verdict of the OFSTED inspectors in October 2004 that ‘City of Norwich School is a good school with many strengths including very good leadership. Standards are above those nationally and the good teaching and learning enable students to achieve well’. We value all our students as individuals, whatever their abilities, backgrounds or social circumstances. Those of us who work here, students and teachers alike, regard CNS as a very special school.
The buildings are impressive and the grounds are beautiful. A new classroom block, a computer network, new Design Technology facilities and a refurbished Learning Centre were all completed in the last few years. In the summer of 2007, major new developments - a Performing Arts Centre, new Science labs and a new Mathematics block - opened as we welcomed new Year 7 and Year 8 students.
