Guildhall Saxophone Quartet delight CNS students

On Wednesday 28th February, a saxophone quartet from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama visited the music department here at CNS giving our students a very full and enjoyable day of experiences.

To start the day, the whole of year 7 were given a concert which focused on ensemble skills, sight reading, and had performances of duets and trios.  Year 8 then followed with a quartet performance of a range of pieces from Celtic music, through to songs from Westside Story.

During period 4, our beginner saxophone ensemble performed to the visiting musicians where they were offered some guidance, but mostly lots of praise. This was followed with some saxophone games and an improvisation workshop.

The day was completed when 55 students from Years 9 through to 13 were invited to watch a 45 minute concert with a varied repertoire including Disney’s Lion King and a Mozart fugue.

The students really enjoyed the concerts and it was lovely to see such excellent concert etiquette on display. It was such a wonderful experience with music that spanned the whole of the school age groups.  Thank you to the quartet for an amazing day!
