CNS receives accreditation from national Framework for Exceptional Education

City of Norwich School (CNS) has been recognised by the Schools, Students and Teachers Network (SSAT) for its approach to “transforming practice in a variety of teaching approaches” which is amongst “the most exceptional nationally.”

The academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust, has been accredited by the SSAT’s Framework for Exceptional Education (FEE), a nationally-recognised programme assessing school improvement and planning, following a rigorous application and evaluation process.

As part of the review, the academy was assessed by an independent moderator and a peer visit from another school, which highlighted CNS as a “learning community” and praised its “clear vision for teaching and learning philosophy.” Specific strengths also included teaching and learning approaches that empower teachers to share and adopt best practice ideas, take part in effective continuous professional development (CPD), and build enthusiasm, passion, and independent learning in the classroom.

Reviewers also highlighted CNS’ transformative approach to learning, including how students benefit from research driven pedagogies which are delivered by subject experts and learn in vibrant classrooms that invigorate student engagement and provide opportunities for innovative teaching practice.

The prestigious framework was co-developed with a group of high-performing schools and leading academics and is underpinned by SSAT’s 30 years of experience in school improvement, helping schools to review and develop their teaching practice.

CNS’ accreditation demonstrates the academy’s and Ormiston’s commitment to providing high-quality education and learning opportunities for all students, alongside building trust-wide and local networks to encourage shared learning in pursuit of CNS’ philosophy of continuous improvement and excellence in all.

Jo Philpott, Headteacher at City of Norwich School, said:

“We are so proud that our teaching and learning expertise, and the dedication of our colleagues have been recognised in this important framework – it is testament to their hard work and commitment of our teachers and the whole school community, who constantly strive to provide the best possible education for our students.

“At CNS, we are committed to continuing to build on and develop our exceptional standard of learning so our teachers can continually grow their subject knowledge and practice, and our students are always realising their full potential.”
