City of Norwich School

Headteacher's Message, Friday 5th July 2019

The sun was shining at Sports Day yesterday and House spirit was audible and visible as the students and staff cheered for their teams. Sports Day is more of a Sports Week as students undertake competitive field events throughout the week, culminating in the track events watched by the whole school. It is a wonderful opportunity for staff and students to come together and share their pride in their House and school as well as enjoy an afternoon outdoors.

Many students wear their Year 6 Transition week t-shirts and school comes alive with colour as a result. As I watched the students assemble yesterday, I was overwhelmed by how happy they looked as they came together to support one another in their events. I also too felt great pride in how much pleasure staff and students were taking from the positive relationships clearly evident between form tutors and tutor groups. Students see their tutors every morning and this is an important start to the day in ensuring students are prepared for their day emotionally as well as practically. While other schools have moved form time to later in the day I strongly believe that starting the day in tutor groups enhances student well-being and creates a positive daily routine.

I am looking forward to the weekend and hope you have a good weekend and enjoy whatever you are doing.
